Since establishment in 2000, Wildlife Estonia has focused on activities
that enable to preserve and promote the aquatic habitats and species of
value for Europe and Estonia:

- a significant role at the development of the Natura 2000 network
concerning Estonian freshwater and coastal water habitats and species prior
to Estonia's accession to EU

- working on sustainable use and restoration of valuable/protected habitats
(rivers 3260, springs 7220* and 7160, floodplain meadows 6450)

- incubation, raring and reinhabiting protected species (Aspius aspius) or
extinct species (Acipenser oxyrhinchus)

- using innovative methods, development of management plans for protecting
N2000 areas with habitats of aquatic species (Lutra lutra, Ophiogomphus.
cecilia, Unio crassus, A. aspius, Cottus gobio, Cobitis taenia, Misgurnus
fossilis, Petromyzon marinus, Lampetra fluviatilis, Alosa fallax and Salmo
salar)

- participation in development of legal acts and national development plans
(nature conservation, rural development, fisheries)

- participation in the preparation and implementing of Cohesion Fund
project for improving ecological status of rivers

- massive activities for promotion and awareness of N2000 values and
importance in national TV and radio channels, printed media, web-media;
activities oriented at youth, local communities, etc.

-  exchange of experience at international level, to multiply the use of
innovative and practical methods.

WILDLIFE ESTONIA
NGO Wildlife Estonia is established in 2000. Our aim is to protect rivers and other aquatic habitats. We care about the nature, biodiversity and fish in particular.

HABITATS
Springs, rivers and lakes are our common treasure. The more natural status they have the more precious they are. 

COMPETENCE
Successful application and implementation of river restoration and fish population status improvement projects. Scientific ichthyology studies with traditional and modern bio-telemetric methods.
